I am third generation to the Baytown area and have strong ties to the local community. I started my State Farm Agency in January 2008 with myself and two team members. With the support of the local community, civic organizations, and businesses, I have grown to a staff of 14 team members. I have learned through my peers that to be truly successful and blessed, you need to be a part of your community and give back. I have been a member of the Baytown Chamber since 2008, and it is an important part of my success and my contributing back to the community. The Chamber not only helps represent the businesses but creates an atmosphere for local businesses to help local businesses. It is not something you just join and get paid, it is something you join, participate in and help yourself and others. One of the things I am most proud of is the fourteen people that have a good job because of my business, and the chamber is an important part of making this a reality. It is one thing to be successful, it is another to help others be successful also.

What has the Baytown Chamber of Commerce done for my business? 32 Years ago, I started a small hobby that today is a respected business in our community. The Chamber has given me opportunities to network with likeminded business owners, share business experiences and struggles, and make friendships and connections that likely would not have happened. Getting involved in a committee, serving on the board, and attending Chamber events is where these relationships develop. I would encourage all business owners to join their chamber and get involved! A good friend of mine preaches…. Something is better than Nothing! Everyone is busy but if you choose to volunteer with one thing that speaks to you, I promise you will not regret it!

When I landed in Baytown in October of 2020, the country was in the middle of the Covid pandemic. After job searching online, I luckily found a position that The Baytown Sun was hiring for in advertising sales and was offered the job. I didn’t know anyone in Baytown or the surrounding area and having been in advertising sales for 30+ years, I knew that wouldn’t work. I had to get to know people. I was given the opportunity to attend and participate in many community events, the majority of which were Baytown Chamber events. I met and got to know business owners and community leaders and as I like to put it, “now, there’s not any place that I can go without getting a warm hug and a hey!”. The Baytown Chamber has allowed me to find my place at the table among my colleagues and with many community leaders and influencers. It has helped my career by allowing me to get to know and network with individuals who are helping me advance my career and leadership skills. I’ve been able to grow as a leader by being chosen as chairperson of the Chamber Ambassador committee. The Baytown Chamber of Commerce has been a huge benefit to me both professionally and personally as I have become acquainted with people who have both become clients and also friends. Not too bad for a painfully shy kid from Tenaha, Texas.
